چکیده

Transparent wood (TW), a biocomposite material demonstrating optical transparency in the visible range, has attracted much interest recent years due to great potential for ecofriendly applications, instance, construction industry and functionalized organic materials. Optical properties of TW, including haze, depend on particular structure cellulose‐based backbone compound, (mis‐)matching refractive indices (RIs) between TW compounds, polymer matrix. Although there are data cellulose RIs various forms (fibers, powder, hot‐pressed films, etc.), these values might differ from an effective RI substrate. Herein, numerical model light propagation based real cellular wood, is presented applied estimate delignified reinforcement experimentally investigated material. Ray‐tracing rigorous electromagnetic approaches compared modeling TW. Ray tracing demonstrates considerably simplified yet accurate efficient solutions. The work brings substantial progress toward realistic practical purpose materials design, fundamental studies.

Lignin‐Retaining Transparent Wood

Optically transparent wood, combining optical and mechanical performance, is an emerging new material for light-transmitting structures in buildings with the aim of reducing energy consumption. One of the main obstacles for transparent wood fabrication is delignification, where around 30 wt % of wood tissue is removed to reduce light absorption and refractive index mismatch. This step is time c...

Fracture Toughness of Wood and Wood Composites during Crack Propagation

The mode I fracture toughness as a function of crack length of medium density fiberboard (MDF), particle board (PB), and Douglas-fir (DF) were all measured using a new energy-based method. PB and MDF are examples of composites that develop fiber bridging during crack propagation, which causes their toughness to increase with crack length. Longitudinal cracks in DF also displayed fiber bridging ...

An Efficient and Cost Effective Protocol for In Vitro Propagation of Pineapple

An efficient and cost effective protocol for in vitro propagation of Pineapple (Ananas comosus var. Queen) has been developed. In the proliferation stage, agar based Murashige and Skoog (MS) media was supplemented with 3.0 mg/l benzyleaminopurine (BAP), 0.5 mg/l indole acetic acid (IAA) and 50 mg/l adenine sulphate as RBC design experiment. Two approaches were taken to reduce the chemical cost ...

Visual Simulation of Wood Weathering

The aging process of material is an unavoidable natural phenomenon. Thus, several CG techniques for representing aging phenomena, such as metal corrosion and stone weathering, have been studied. In this paper, we propose a visual simulation method of wood weathering. First, we present the wood model in consideration of branching. Then, we give the algorithm for representing the weathering of th...

Efficient Simulation of 3D Electro-optical Waveguides Using the Effective Refractive Index Method

3D FEM simulation of millimeterscale, complex electro-optically induced waveguide based devices demands the use of grids with more than several million nodes. Hence, the simulation could take substantial time and require large amounts of available memory. This paper presents a computation algorithm based on the conversion of an initial 3D waveguide structure into an analogous 2D structure, wher...
